Osteopathy is an established, safe and natural
system of diagnosis and treatment focusing on the principle that the
body will always try to maintain the balance which is essential to good
health. It recognises that much of the pain and disability we
suffer is caused by abnormalities within the body's framework, as well
as damage caused to it by disease. This can disturb the
circulatory system or nerves to any part of the body and affect any
aspect of health.
Osteopaths work to rebalance the structure and
function of the body, looking at all the factors contributing to the
body's disturbed state of natural health rather than simply treating the
apparent problem.
Conditions benefitting from treatment include:
·
Back and neck ache
·
Whiplash
·
Sciatica
·
Muscle spasms and cramp
·
Arthritic and rheumatic pain
·
Fibromyalgia
·
Circulatory problems
·
Digestion problems
·
Neuralgia
·
Minor sports injuries
·
Aches and pains
·
Inability to relax
On your first visit a full case history will be
taken and you will be given an examination. Using a highly
developed sense of touch 'palpation', any points of weakness or
excessive strain throughout the body will be identified by the
osteopath. The osteopath uses her hands to investigate the
underlying causes of pain and to carry out treatment using a variety of
manipulative techniques. These may include rhythmic joint
movements, manipulation, soft tissue stretching and gentle releasing
techniques. This can help to reduce muscular spasm, improve
circulation, reduce swelling and improve mobility, helping to create a
healthier state in which damaged tissue can heal.
