Cranial osteopathy is a
refined and subtle type of osteopathic treatment which gently
releases stresses and tensions throughout the body, including
the head. Due to its gentle approach, it is suitable for people
of all ages, especially babies, children and older people.
Treatment is aimed not only at the relief of symptoms, but
towards helping the body function in all aspects.
Throughout all of our body tissues there is a
continual, subtle rhythmic shape change known as the involuntary
motion. When we experience physical or emotional stresses our
body tissues tend to tighten up, and disrupt this cranial
rhythm. The body is often able to adapt to these stresses at
the time, but a lasting strain often remains, and any tensions
which do remain held in the body can restrict its free
movement. Over time the body may find it gradually more
difficult to cope with the accumulated stress, and symptoms may
develop.
Cranial
osteopaths are trained to feel these very subtle rhythmical
shape changes, and using highly trained palpatory skills detect
and gently release areas of tension and restriction within the
body. This helps to restore a state of balance within the
musculoskeletal system of the body, and promotes relaxation. |
