Cranial osteopathy is a refined and subtle
type of osteopathic treatment which gently releases stresses and
tensions throughout the body, including the head. Because of
its gentle approach it is suitable for people of all ages,
especially babies, children and older people. It aims to treat
the whole person, holistically, not just the
condition.
Throughout all of our body tissues there is a
continual, subtle rhythmic shape change known as the involuntary
motion. When we experience physical or emotional stresses our
body tissues tend to tighten up, and disrupt this cranial
rhythm. The body is often able to adapt to these stresses at
the time, but a lasting strain often remains, and any tensions
which do remain held in the body can restrict its free
movement. Over time the body may find it gradually more
difficult to cope with the accumulated stress, and symptoms may
develop.
Cranial
osteopaths are trained to feel these very subtle rhythmical
shape changes using their finely developed sense of touch,
detecting any stresses and strains the body is suffering, and
what tensions it may be carrying as a result of its past
history. This will give an insight into the overall condition
of the body, whether it is stressed, tired or healthy.
