Remedial Massage

Remedial massage therapy is the therapeutic treatment of soft tissues, including muscles, ligaments and tendons by means of massage and the mobilisation of joints. It promotes deep relaxation and reduces stress, relaxing muscles and relieving tension. It can relieve mental and physical fatigue as well as alleviating chronic pain. It helps in the prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, promoting the body's own healing and defence systems by improving circulation, restoring nutrients needed for healthy tissues.

Treatment can benefit a number of conditions including:

  • Back and neck ache
  • Shoulder and elbow pain
  • Overuse injuries/repetitive strain injuries (RSI)
  • Sciatica
  • Arthritic pain and stiffness
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Stress related aches and pains
  • Fibromyalgia

Sports Massage & Therapy

Sports massage is not just for serious athletes, it treats the cause of pain whether this is due to a sporting injury, chronic condition or general wear and tear from everyday activities. It can help to stretch and lengthen shortened muscles therefore reducing pain and spasms.

Vigorous exercise can leave muscles feeling stiff and sore. Injury to an active individual can not only be painful, but frustrating and emotionally devastating. Sports massage can help muscles return to their normal function and work more efficiently. It is beneficial pre and post event, as well as during training, helping with conditioning, training and maintaining muscle condition. It can help injury prevention as well as recovery from injury, and can also enhance ability to perform.

The aim of a Sports Therapist is to enable the athlete to return to their full functional fitness in the shortest yet safest time possible. Treatment can be carried out during the different healing stages of injury. The athlete’s cardiovascular fitness/exercise will also be addressed as this is essential in retaining the individual’s physical fitness in preparation for their return to their specific sport. By the end of the treatment programme the athlete will be ready both mentally and physically to return to their competitive sport.
