Medical Herbalists consider the body as a whole, thus treating the underlying cause of the illness not just the symptoms. By using whole plant preparations herbalists aim to support the body and restore balance, enabling the body to mobilise its own healing powers. Herbal medicines are made from pure plant material and come in many forms including herbal tinctures, dried herbs, juices, creams, lotions, capsules and syrups.
Herbal medicine is very versatile, safe and effective, and can be used at any age, even during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding. Under the supervision of a qualified Medical Herbalist medicines can be used to great benefit whilst avoiding the presentation of unwanted side effects. This approach can be used alone as an effective treatment, or alongside orthodox treatment, where the herbalist aims to work with the doctor in order to provide the best treatment plan for the patient.
