The eustachian tube (ear canal) in the child is more horizontal than in the adult and means that drainage of the ear is much less effective in a child.  Osteopathic treatment helps with glue ear by:

• Looking at the soft tissue surrounding the eustachian tube which may compromise its diameter or drainage, and reducing local oedema/soft tissue swelling.

• Unblocking the lymphatics to help improve efficiency of drainage of the ear.

• Improving function of the face and palate in order to aid pumping and drainage mechansims of the ear.
